1. step – PURPOSE

I believe that having a purpose in life is the only lasting motivation and needed drive to becoming the best version of ourselves and creating the life we desire.

A purpose could be described as a number of goals, each getting us closer to the biggest one – the bigger picture – the purpose.

No one in this world can decide for you what will your purpose be. It is your decision, your choice.

It is within only your power to define it, establish it and then live for it.

Of course, your purpose can shape, twist and change many times during your life. You can even have more than just one purpose but make sure you always have one.

Since purpose is the reason for which something is done. Therefore everything you do has some purpose already, otherwise you would not do anything at all.

Defining your purpose is essential because when you don’t know why are you doing what you are doing, you can hardly achieve anything.

2. step – FINDING “WHYS

I call the process of distinguishing the reasons behind human behavior “finding whys.”

This process requires skills of focus and self-reflection – one of the most valuable skills to learn for your entire life.

There is no reaction without previous action; there is no behavior without a previous stimulus. Everything we do, say, think or feel has a reason, and it represents an answer to something that has already happened.

The “why” doesn’t have to be necessarily connected to an event that happened right before your reaction. It can be something far from the past that you barely remember.

But something did happen and it has affected you so deeply that it shaped your current behavior years later. And I sure would want to know what was it.

Some people tend to ignore the fact that there is an explanation to “why we are the way we are” and they pretend that the way they are right now is the way they were born, with no power to ever change. But they couldn’t be more wrong.

Let’s face it.

Refusing the fact that there is a reason behind our behavior doesn’t make it go away. There will always be a “why” patiently waiting to be found.

We have ourselves and our lives in our hands. Humans are the only species with the ability to introspect.

We can find the reasons, the “whys” behind our behavioral patterns, behind our thoughts, feelings and emotions. And if we find them, we can name them a then change them – we can become who we desire to be.

3. step – ACTION

It might seem that the step no. 2 was final but don’t be misled.

Way too many people get stuck at the step no. 2, they successfully find out “why” they are the way they are and “why” they ended up with lives they don’t want to live.

They found their “whys,” and that’s where they stopped.

But there is the step no. 3 and it is the most important one.

Because no matter how amazing your purpose is or how well you’ve learned the skill of self-reflection – you will not change, neither will your life, unless you act.

Unless you take action when you set your goals and unless you make the steps to change your behavior after finding “why” you behave a certain way.

Taking action is the key to changing yourself and your life.

If every one of us took just one step a day towards becoming the best version of ourselves, the world would change to a much more beautiful place.
